Guatemala City - Introduction

Guatemala City is not only the capital of Guatemala, but also the largest urban agglomeration in Central America. The home of 2.5 million people, Guatemala City is huge and noisy, and the differences between the rich and poor are vast. It is also the region’s financial and political center, as well as the country’s cultural center, shown in the large number of museums and resident writers and artists. Guatemala City is also the transportation hub of the country.

Guatemala City, known as Guate by the locals, is a modern city largely unvisited by tourists. The city has several historic churches, the archaeological site of Kaminal Juyú, and many restaurants.

Guatemala is a country famous for the spectacular range of volcanoes, and the best Mayan ruins in the entire Latin America. They can be found scattered all over the country, but the most important ruins are found in Tikal area.
