Allegheny County Airport Authority Announces Wireless Communications At Pittsburgh International Airport

Pittsburgh International Airport has taken a major step into the world of wireless communication and its travelers will reap the rewards.

Free high-speed wireless Internet service is now offered throughout all four airside concourses – A, B, C and D – the core and the AIRMALL food courts and in the US Airways Club in the airside core. Now passengers waiting for their flights at any of the gates or food court areas can access the Internet with their laptop computers or PDAs (personal digital assistants) – without any fees.

All that is needed to access the Internet is a laptop computer or PDA equipped with a Wi-Fi card. Through the 802.11b wireless network at Pittsburgh International Airport, travelers will experience Internet connections at speeds faster than many broadband services.

To Use WiFi at Pittsburgh International Airport:

Turn on your computer, set your wi fi card to its basic default settings. The card will find the wireless connection automatically.

If you continue to have problems, you need to contact your computer's support staff or your company's IT dept.

No Fee!

Pittsburgh International Airport is among only a few airports equipped for wireless communications in the country and one of the only ones that does not charge a fee.

“We are very excited to bring a Wireless Communications Access System to Pittsburgh International Airport. This will especially help the business traveler deal with the demands of traveling for work. For Pittsburgh International Airport, it is another way to enhance its already glowing customer service reputation,” Allegheny County Airport Authority Board Chairman Glenn R. Mahone said.

Pittsburgh International Airport has received numerous accolades worldwide, including being ranked among the top airport by Official Airline Guide, JD Power, Conde Nast Traveler Magazine, Travelocity and e-Travel.

“This state-of-the-art wireless system will better serve the telecommunications needs of passengers, tenants, employees, and patrons of the airport. It is another advance in providing our customers with outstanding service while utilizing cutting-edge technology,” Allegheny County Airport Authority Executive Director Kent G. George said.

“We see a fantastic opportunity in Pittsburgh,” said Myrtle Beach Direct Air and Tours President Ed Warneck. “Many people from this region visit Myrtle Beach, with its more than 100 golf courses and beautiful beaches each year. This service will make their travels easier.”

Myrtle Beach Direct Air and Tours will use Boeing 737`s with a capacity of 125 passengers. Myrtle Beach Direct Air and Tours` flights are public charters operated by Sky King Inc.
