Sacramento - News Update

The Sacramento County Airport System Planning and Development Department is responsible for planning, design and construction activities pursuant to the Master Plan for SMF, SAC, MHR & Franklin Field (Q53 Airports); directing airport land acquisition programs; Federal grants; environmental impact reports; expansion project site analysis; and other developmental activities.

Construction

Sacramento International Airport has been the site of change over recent years. Improvements are either currently planned or underway on the roadways, parking, landscaping, and airfield.

Since some construction efforts may impact traffic patterns at Sacramento International Airport, please tune your radio to 530AM when you are within five miles of the airport to get updates about parking and traffic at the airport.

Sacramento International Airport Terminal Modernization Plan

What is the Terminal Modernization Plan?

SCAS is involved in a multi-phased planning effort to identify (plan and design) and implement the future vision for SMF. The SMF Master Plan was the first phase of this process and the final draft was approved by the Board of Supervisors in February 2004.

The Terminal Modernization Program is the second phase of this planning effort. It was developed to identify preliminary facilities requirements, terminal complex alternatives, evaluation of those alternatives and the selection of a preferred terminal development concept. The Project Definition Manual is the result of the Phase II efforts and is presented as a "living" document that will evolve throughout the process.

The preferred design concept for the new Central Terminal B was approved by the Board of Supervisors in September 2006.
